How much should I charge for renting out a room?
There is no "set" price, however read page 11 for some suggestions.
Should I furnish the room?
There are exceptions to every rule, but before you do, see page 37 for some suprising answers.
What about utilities and the phone?
Depending on how your household is set up, several options are discussed on pages 27, 30-31, and 41.
My roommate wants a lock installed on her door. Should I?

What happens when my roommate doesn't pay the rent?
It happens sometimes. Remember don't panic. There are several choices discussed on page 12.
My roommate had her boyfriend move in. This was not our arrangement. Now what do I do?
The most common problem between roommates. Did you sign a lease outlining your house rules? If you did and this rule was part of the agreement, she is in violation of the lease. See page 20 and 21 for an example of a Rental Agreement. Chapter Six outlines some common "rules" that should be discussed when setting up a rental agreement.
How do I interview a potential roommate?
Chapter Nine, pages 35 through 43, gives a list of questions you never thought to ask and why you need to ask them. You will be astonished at some of the answers you receive! See also pages 31, 33 and 34 for more help on this issue.
My best friend wants to be my roommate? Is it a good idea?

As I advise throughout my guidebook, acquiring a roommate is a very serious undertaking that most people do not think out in advance. Nothing is foolproof but I believe the formula I have outlined in “SORRY, THE BOA HAS GOTTA GO!” is a winning one. Do not give up on the idea. Read some of the many benefits listed on my home page.
